I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the CAMB's (Colorado Association of Mortgage Brokers) Political Action Committee and the trade show last Friday. It was a surprise to me that the were endorsing the passage of Colorado's Referenda C&D. For those no familiar with C&D, they basically suspend parts of TABOR, the Colorado taxpayer's rights bill. The end result is a tax increase, even though the proponents claim otherwise. You can get more info here.
CAMB's reasoning for the endorsement is based on their desire to institute licensing in Colorado. You see, they want the licensing to be funded through government. The government does not have the budget to do so. The solution as they see it, is to increase taxes for every Colorado tax payer in order to fund their plan. I disagree with CAMB on both counts. Licensing is nothing more than a feel good measure and funding on the backs of taxpayers just makes it that much worse. Because of this stance, I will not be rejoining the association any time soon.
